SAN MATEO, CA — A delivery driver was arrested by San Mateo police Wednesday for threatening a parking enforcement officer and resisting arrest following a dispute over a parking citation.

Alison Gilmore, a San Mateo police spokesperson, said officers responded to a report of a disturbance at about 1:17 p.m. Wednesday at the Main Street Parking Garage, located at 355 2nd Avenue.

Once on scene, officers learned of a confrontation between the parking enforcement officer and the delivery driver over the parking citation. The parking enforcement officer wrote a citation for a vehicle that was parking in a handicapped parking space without displaying a valid handicapped placard. As the officer wrote the citation, the delivery driver returned to his vehicle.

The officer asked the driver if he possessed a valid handicapped placard. Gilmore said the driver admitted that he did not have a placard, and started to chase the officer around the parking garage. The driver threatened to harm the officer.

On scene, responding officers located the delivery driver, who was later identified as John Boswell, 38, an Oakland resident. Boswell spoke with the officers, but he became irritated. He refused to identify himself to the officers and he walked away.

They ordered him to remain with them while they conducted their investigation, but Boswell refused to comply, physically resisting their efforts to detain him.

Officers were able to safely detain Boswell. He was booked into San Mateo County Jail for resisting an executive officer and resisting arrest.
