Doctor Who Raped SMC Tinder Date Sentenced: Report
The woman told the man she was not interested in hooking up but he sexually assaulted her in his hotel room, prosecutors said.
SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — A North Carolina eye care doctor was sentenced to prison Tuesday after raping a woman he met on Tinder during a 2023 work trip to the Bay Area, prosecutors said.
Nizar Fathallah Saleh Abdelfattah, 37, an Optamologist visiting from Durham, N.C., received a sentence of six years in state prison. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life, have no contact with the victim for 10 years, and pay $8,000 in restitution, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s office.
A San Mateo County jury convicted Abdelfattah of forcible rape and forcible digital penetration in March.

On Sept. 30, 2023, Abdelfattah met a woman via Tinder at the SFO Marriott Waterfront hotel in Burlingame. Despite her telling him she was not interested in having sex, he sexually assaulted her in his hotel room, prosecutors said.
The victim immediately reported the rape to the Burlingame Police Department.
