Fatal Peninsula Hit-And-Run Under Investigation

A 43-year-old Burlingame resident was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and booked into San Mateo County Jail, police said.

BURLINGAME, CA — A suspect was arrested in connection with a Peninsula hit-and-run crash late Friday that killed one person and injured another, police said.

A 43-year-old Burlingame resident was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and booked into San Mateo County Jail, the Burlingame Police Department said.

Police have not released the suspect's name.

Andree Peterson, 58 of San Jose, was identified as the person killed in the crash, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said.

The other victim was hospitalized and was in stable condition as of Thursday, police said.

The suspect initially fled the scene but later returned and cooperated with authorities, police said.

The crash shuttered California Drive between Floribunda Avenue and Palm Drive for several hours.

Officers at around 10:35 p.m. Friday responded to the intersection of California Drive and Oak Grove Avenue on the report of two pedestrians being struck by a vehicle, police said.

Officers arriving on the scene found two people lying in the roadway with major injuries, police said.

“Officers rendered immediate aid, and EMS was summoned.

“Both individuals were transported to local trauma hospitals, where one succumbed to their injuries and died,” police Lt. Jay Kiely said in a statement.

“The other is currently in stable condition.”

The investigation of Burlingame's first fatal collision of 2022 is ongoing, police said.
