Fatal Peninsula Surf Accident Victim ID’d

The victim died despite the efforts of good Samaritans to save him, police said.

PACIFICA, CA — A surfer who died in Pacifica last week has been identified as Jose Aguilar, 44 of San Bruno, the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office said.

Aguilar died Nov. 6 at Pacifica State Beach, also known as Linda Mar Beach, despite the efforts of good Samaritans to save him, police said.

Officers and North County Fire Authority personnel at around 2:48 p.m. responded to Pacifica State Beach on the report of a person in the water and in distress, police said.

Officers determined there were two male surfers in distress in the surf, and that a beachgoer with help from his son and other beachgoers were able to bring them to shore.

“Despite exhaustive lifesaving efforts by paramedics on scene, they were unable to revive one of the patients,” police said in a statement.

“The second subject rescued from the water was transported to a local hospital for further medical attention, and was later released.”

The investigation into this death is being conducted by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office and the Pacifica Police Department.
