San Mateo Man Arrested At LAX After Police Find Illegal Firearms, 3D Printer in His Home

The investigation began with a stalking report that led police to uncover assault weapons and gun-making equipment.

SAN MATEO, CA — A San Mateo man was arrested Thursday night at Los Angeles International Airport after police say they found illegal firearms, silencers, and gun-manufacturing tools — including a 3D printer — inside his home.

Leqiang Wang, 28, was taken into custody around 11 p.m. by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Airport Division on suspicion of firearms violations and other related charges, according to the San Mateo Police Department.

The investigation began on March 7 when a San Mateo resident reported that a suspicious person had followed her from San Francisco and taken photos of her car, police said. The suspect allegedly returned to her neighborhood multiple times after the initial incident.

Detectives later identified the suspect as Wang and obtained a search warrant for his San Mateo residence. Inside, officers found multiple illegal firearms, including automatic rifles, silencers, unserialized guns — commonly known as “ghost guns” — and a 3D printer believed to be used in the manufacture of firearms.

An arrest warrant was issued, and Wang was located at LAX on April 3. He was booked into a Los Angeles County jail and is awaiting transfer to San Mateo County.
