Gun Buyback Event Scheduled In San Mateo County This Weekend
No questions will be asked for people who surrender their weapons. People can receive $100 in cash for handguns, shotguns or rifles.
SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — San Mateo County will host a gun buyback event on Saturday in South San Francisco at the North County Courthouse parking lot.
No questions will be asked for people who surrender their weapons. People can receive $100 in cash for handguns, shotguns or rifles, and $200 cash for assault weapons and so-called “ghost guns.”
“As recent events in Buffalo and Uvalde, Texas, have tragically underscored, gun violence remains an ever-present danger in our communities,” San Mateo County Supervisor Dave Pine said. “By taking guns out of circulation, coupled with strong local safety policies, we can continue to reduce the prevalence and availability of guns.”

"The purpose of the gun buyback program is to make the County of San Mateo safer for those who live and work here,” San Mateo County Sheriff Carlos G. Bolanos said. “Many households in the county have unwanted, unused, and unsecured guns. The purpose of the gun buyback is to get rid of guns, no questions asked. We are providing a place for people to come and dispose of them and get some money in return. We feel this will improve public safety in our county."
The North County Courthouse is located at 1050 Mission Road in South San Francisco, CA., Saturday, June 4, 2022. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
