Machete-Wielding San Mateo Man Accused Of Child Cruelty: Cops
The man injured someone with a child present in a Peninsula apartment complex when the victim tried to stop the swinging weapon, cops say.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A 40-year-old San Mateo man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and child cruelty outside Redwood City Monday night, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department reported.
Sheriff's deputies said they responded at 6:45 p.m. to the 300 block of 4th Avenue in unincorporated Redwood City on the report of a disturbance and blood located in the lobby of an apartment complex.
"Deputies learned the two victims were approached by Marco Antonio Ayapanjocop who was armed with a machete," a sheriff's news release stated. "Ayapanjocop raised the machete and threaten[ed] the victims as he swung the machete multiple times in their direction."

Neither person was struck with the machete when he was swinging it, but the male victim sustained a minor non-life-threatening injury to his arm "when he reached for the machete to disarm the suspect," according to sheriff's officials.
A 7-year-old child was with the victims during the assault, but was unharmed, officials said.

The suspect fled the scene but was later located by deputies.
