Man Accused Of Assaulting Elderly Mother Before SWAT Standoff
Robert Kimuracuellar, 37, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse causing injury.
SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — A 37-year-old Half Moon Bay man was arrested on Friday after allegedly attacking his mother and initiating a standoff with law enforcement.
Robert Kimuracuellar was accused of strangling his 67-year-old mother and refusing to come out of his residence when San Mateo County sheriff's deputies arrived to the residence where the assault allegedly occurred.
The victim reported the alleged attack in person at the Half Moon Bay sheriff's office substation, the sheriff's office said in a press release.

After his initial refusal to come out, the sheriff's office deployed several resources and called three police departments and Cal Fire to respond.
Drones, psychiatric experts and crisis negotiators all failed to resolve the situation, which became a standoff lasting several hours, before a sheriff's office SWAT team was called.

Kimuracuellar then surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.
The sheriff's office said in its press release that he was believed to have been under the influence of drugs and was having a mental health crisis.
He was booked at Maguire Correctional Facility on accusations of assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse causing injury.
