Man Accused Of Stabbing Co-Worker In San Mateo

A 60-year-old San Mateo man is accused of stabbing his co-worker during an argument at work on Tuesday afternoon.

SAN MATEO, CA — A San Mateo man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after investigators allege he stabbed a co-worker multiple times during an argument.

In a news release Wednesday, the police department said officers responded to a stabbing call near the intersection of 36th Avenue and Hacienda Street just a few minutes after a 911 call received at 3:15 p.m.

Officers arrived to find a victim bleeding from multiple stab wounds on his leg and arm and applied tourniquets and other aid until paramedics arrived to take him to the hospital. He was expected to survive.

Police identified the suspect as Robert Ridenour, 60, of San Mateo. Officers said Ridenour was still at the scene when they arrived and was detained without incident. According to police, the investigation revealed the two men were in a verbal argument when Ridenour grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim in front of several co-workers. The witnesses were able to separate the two and called for help.

"This was an isolated incident that escalated from a verbal argument," police wrote Wednesday. "The swift actions by our officers responding to the scene were able to provide medical care to the victim and apprehend the person responsible for the crime."

Ridenour was booked into jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
