Man Caught Sneaking Drugs Into Bay Area Jail

Police said they found the drugs after realizing the man was not authorized to enter the correctional facility.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — A 27-year-old man was caught attempting to enter a San Mateo County jail Tuesday while carrying suspected drugs, paraphernalia and a cell phone concealed in his shoe, police said.

“The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to providing a safe and secure custodial environment for our staff, visitors and those in our custody. I commend our Deputies for their quick and decisive actions in preventing illicit drugs from entering the facility,” said Sheriff Christina Corpus.

At around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, police said Brian Siordia, 27, of San Jose, entered the Maple Street Correctional Facility to visit someone incarcerated there.

Siordia, who was formerly incarcerated in San Mateo County, did not get the required approval required of someone formerly incarcerated to enter a correctional facility.

Sheriff’s deputies said they saw Siordia in the lobby of the jail and arrested him for being on the premises.

Deputies said they then found suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a cell phone hidden in his shoe.

Police said they arrested Siordia for bringing controlled substances into a jail facility, bringing drugs into jail, unauthorized presence on jail grounds by a former inmate, bringing communication devices into jail, and possession of a controlled substance.

He was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility.
