Man Pistol-Whips Victim With Ghost Gun During Attack In San Mateo County

Police said they arrested a man for the assault among other violations such as possessing methamphetamine and driving under the influence.

SAN MATEO, CA — A 39-year-old man hit another man in the mouth with a gun and then punched and kneed the victim while they were on the ground after an argument Sunday in San Mateo, police said.

At 3:08 p.m. on Sunday, San Mateo Police Department officers said they responded to the 1600 block of Roberta Drive after receiving a report of a recent assault.

Police said when they arrived the victim told them they had been struck in the mouth with a gun during an argument with a man later identified as 39-year-old Jose Alvaradovasquez.

After being hit in the mouth with the gun, police said the victim told them they fell to the ground and Alvaradovasquez then punched them and kneed them.

Officer said shortly after receiving the call they found Alvaradovasquez entering a car. As he began to drive away, police said they pulled over Alvaradovasquez and found two rounds of 9mm ammunition and suspected methamphetamine.

Police said they initially placed Alvaradovasquez under arrest for driving under the influence but a search of the area led officers to finding an unserialized gun, a magazine and additional ammunition hidden in the bushes.

Alvaradovasquez was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a loaded firearm in public, possession of an unserialized firearm, concealing evidence, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a loaded firearm while in possession of suspected methamphetamine, driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license, police said.

Alvaradovasquez was booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
