Modified AR-15 Found In Probe Of Suspected Peninsula Gang Member
San Mateo police said they found the illegal weapons Thursday during a search of two locations associated with the suspect.
SAN MATEO, CA — A modified assault rifle and a stolen gun were seized in the search of a home of suspect already in custody, San Mateo police said.
Alan Ayala, a 28-year-old Burlingame man with known gang ties, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a machine gun, possession of an assault weapon, possession of a short-barreled rifle and receiving stolen property, among other crimes, police said.

Ayala was already in custody for a probation violation on Thursday when San Mateo police executed search warrants at locations in the800 block of Rolison Road in Burlingame and the 1000 block of Folkstone Avenue in San Mateo, police sad.
Officers at the Folkstone location found a shor- barreled AR rifle with a “swift link” conversion device, which coverts it to a machine gun, a loaded .45 caliber Sig Sauer 1911 handgun with 7 rounds of ammunition, an AR-15 rifle, a loaded 60 round .556 magazine, a loaded 30 round .556 magazine, and multiple items of gang paraphernalia. Later, SMPD learned the Sig Sauer was a reported stolen firearm, police said.

A cellphone was located and collected as evidence at the Rolison location, police said.
