SAN MATEO, CA — A mountain lion was spotted wandering around a San Mateo residential neighborhood Tuesday morning, according to the San Mateo Police Department.
The cat was seen on Oak Valley Road shortly before 8 a.m. crossing the road, according to surveillance footage provided by a resident.
The mountain lion entered the view of the camera and then quickly departed for the woods nearby, according to police.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife suggests the following tips if encountering a mountain lion:
- Do not run.
- Face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger.
- Speak calmly and do not use pitched tones or screams.
