Multi-Vehicle San Mateo Crash Prompts Distracted Driving Advisory

SAN MATEO, CA — A multi-vehicle traffic accident in San Mateo that involved a distracted driver has prompted police to issue a an advisory.

The crash at El Camino Real and 31st Avenue occurred Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

The driver of a vehicle traveling northbound on El Camino Real was distracted by using her GPS and collided with another vehicle at the intersection, police said.

“GPS is a helpful aid for navigation,” the San Mateo Police Department wrote on the agency’s Facebook page.

“But GPS can quickly become a distraction if you focus on the GPS screen rather than paying attention to other vehicles, pedestrians, or motorists who are sharing the road.

“Drive safe, San Mateo.”
