Pacifica Mountain Lion Sighting Prompts Alert

The big cat was seen around 10 p.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of Banyan Way, Pacifica police said.

PACIFICA, CA — A Peninsula mountain lion sighting over the weekend has prompted an alert from the Pacifica Police Department.

The big cat was seen around 10 p.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of Banyan Way, police said.

No aggressive behavior towards humans was reported.

“Pacifica is mountain lion country and sightings are not uncommon,” the agency said on its Facebook page.

“These animals are most active around dawn and dusk. We encourage residents to always be aware of their surroundings and to always watch over their children and pets.”

Anyone who witnesses a wild animal behaving aggressively towards humans is urged to call local authorities.

Wild animal sightings may also be reported to the California Department Fish and Wildlife’s wildlife incident reporting system.
