Peninsula Robbery Suspect Accused In Attack On Elderly Woman Arrested

DALY CITY, CA — A home invasion robbery suspect has been arrested in connection with multiple incidents, including one in which an elderly Peninsula woman was badly beaten, police said.
Derouen Cheeves, 34, of Richmond, was arrested on Oct. 5 on suspicion of numerous felony crimes, according to the Daly City Police Department.
In recent months, the Daly City and San Francisco police departments were investigating a series of armed home invasion robberies that had occurred along the San Francisco and Daly City border.

The suspect played a role in an a Sept. 28 robbery in the 100 block of Los Olives Avenue in Daly City, in which one of the assailants was disguised as a PG&E. An elderly woman had been forced inside her home and choked as the thieves took a significant amount of money and jewelry from her home, according to police.
The 70-year-old victim is diabetic and is facing medical bills she can no longer afford, granddaughter Skylar told NBC Bay Area.

“He was pretending to be someone from PG&E, to try and trick my grandmother into letting him to the house,” Skylar told the television station.
Detectives were able to identify the suspect's vehicle and another vehicle being used in the robberies, police said.
During a surveillance operation, investigators identified Cheeves as a suspect in a series of home invasion robberies, police said.
Police said he is also suspected of committing an armed robbery at a Daly City nail salon in April.
On Oct. 5, Daly City detectives, members of the San Francisco Tactical Unit and robbery detectives executed multiple search warrants, and Cheeves was taken into custody.
The victim of the Sept. 28 robbery is a Chinese immigrant who worked three full time jobs to support her four children, Skylar wrote in a GoFundMe in support of the victim.
“My grandma is the strongest, most resilient, hardworking person I have ever met,” Skylar said on the GoFundMe.
“She has never asked for help from anyone and probably never will, but right now she really needs it."
