PACIFICA, CA — A surfer died in Pacifica on Sunday despite the efforts of good Samaritans to save him, police said.

Officers and North County Fire Authority personnel at around 2:48 p.m. responded to Pacifica State Beach, also known as Linda Mar Beach, on the report of a person in the water and in distress, police said.

Officers determined there were two male surfers in distress in the surf, and that a beachgoer with help from his son and other beachgoers were able to bring them to shore.
