Plate Reader Foils Carjacking Suspect In Peninsula

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A newly implemented tech tool helped lead to the arrest of a carjacking suspect in the Peninsula, South San Francisco police said.

Officers on Wednesday night responded to the area of South Airport Boulevard in response to an activation from Automated License Plate Recognition cameras that were just announced last week.
The cameras identified a vehicle that was stolen in a carjacking in an East Bay city, police said.

The agency’s Neighborhood Response Team located the vehicle at a gas station on South Airport Boulevard, police said.
“A huge thanks to our new crime fighting technology for identifying this vehicle and for our Neighborhood Response Team for locating and capturing this dangerous individual,” the agency said.
