Propane Explosion Closes El Camino Real

The propane tank explosion occurred at a U-Haul facility in Redwood City.

El Camino Real was closed in both directions in Redwood City Friday morning due to a propane tank explosion at a U-Haul facility.

No one was injured in the explosion, which was reported to the Redwood City Fire Department at 8:20 a.m. at the moving and storage facility at 2200 El Camino Real.

Fire crews remained at the scene late Friday morning and had water on the propane feeder tank to cool it while the rest of the propane runs out, a firefighter said.

Redwood City police closed El Camino Real in both directions. Southbound traffic was blocked from Oak Avenue to Charter Street, while northbound traffic was blocked from Willow Street to Oak Avenue as of 11 a.m.
