San Mateo Election Results 2022: Diaz, Newsom Lead City Council Race
The polls are closed and voters have had their say on state and local races.

SAN MATEO, CA — The polls are closed in San Mateo County, and voters will soon know the 2022 General Election results.
In the San Mateo City Council Race, according to semiofficial results posted at 10 p.m., Lisa Diaz Nash (70.2 percent) has a commanding lead in the District 1 race over Nick Atkeson (29.8 percent), Robert Newsom Jr. (46.5 percent) leads the District 3 race over Sarah Fields (41.4 percent) and Sergio Zygmut (12.2 percent) and Adam Loraine (50.4 percent) is locked in a tight race with Rod Linhares (49.6 percent) with just 24 votes separating the two candidates (1,480-1,456).
California Assembly Speaker pro Tem Kevin Mullin appears to be headed to Congress, holding a sizable lead in the initial results of Tuesday's election to replace long-time Democratic stalwart Jackie Speier in her District 15 seat representing the Peninsula and parts of San Francisco.

Mullin had nearly 58 percent of the vote compared to about 42 percent for San Mateo County Supervisor David Canepa, according to initial unofficial results Tuesday night.
Mullin, 52, was elected to the Assembly in 2013 after serving on the South San Francisco City Council and is the son of former state Assemblymember Gene Mullin.

Speier, who is retiring after nearly 15 years in Congress, endorsed Mullin, who worked for her when she was in the state Senate.
Canepa, who served eight years on the Daly City City Council before joining the county Board of Supervisors six years ago, congratulated Mullins following the release of the initial results Tuesday.
"Running for Congress has been the most exciting year of my life and I'm so proud of my team. We fought hard and we never gave up. Congratulations to Kevin Mullin, we wish him the very best of luck and look forward to working with him on the most pressing issues our nation faces," Canepa said.
There are 430,809 registered voters in San Mateo County of which 234,759 (56.19 percent) are registered as Democrats, 60,027 (13.9 percent) are registered as Republicans, and 11,177 (2.6 percent) have chosen no party preference.
