San Mateo Co. Firefighters Conduct Prescribed Burn: See

SAN MATEO, CA — San Mateo County firefighters conducted a prescribed burn Friday in Pescadero in a 30-acre burn area.
The burn began around 11 a.m., with smoke visible from Pescadero and Highway 1 in San Mateo County.

Cal Fire reported "great consumption," meaning that all of the vegetation was being burned.

Months before the burn, firefighters set up a Remote Automatic Weather Station to track the weather to ensure optimal burning conditions.

The burn was part of a multi-year process in conjunction with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to explore how prescribed burning can reduce the risk of wildfires in tandem with regenerative planned livestock grazing, according to the San Mateo County Fire Department.

It was expected to reduce brush on a ridge north of Pescadero. The burn area was pre-treated with masticators, according to the San Mateo County Fire Department.
