San Mateo Crosswalk Sting Nets 24 Citations: Cops

Wednesday's pedestrian safety enforcement operation was held at two locations.

SAN MATEO, CA — Authorities issued 24 citations Wednesday during a pedestrian safety operation held at two Peninsula locations, San Mateo police said.

A crosswalk sting at the intersection of Franklin Parkway and Baze Road netted two citations for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and three for cell phone violations, police said.

A sting held at the 4th Avenue and Grant Street intersection resulted in 13 citations for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and six for cell phone violations, police said.

Approximately 10 percent of motorists screened at the Franklin Parkway/Baze Road operation and 21 percent at the 4th Avenue/Grant Street operation of committed infractions, according to police.

The SMPD’s pedestrian safety enforcement operation is scheduled to continue Thursday.

“If you yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, you can’t go wrong, and won’t have a reason to meet us,” the agency wrote on its Facebook page.
