San Mateo DUI Checkpoint Location Revealed
The location was selected based on a history of DUI collisions and arrests, police said.
SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — San Mateo will hold a DUI checkpoint next weekend, police said.
The checkpoint will be held from 6 p.m. Feb. 10 to 2 a.m. the next day near Peninsula Avenue and North Delaware Street, according to police.
Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI collisions and arrests, police said.

“The primary purpose of checkpoints is to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired, not make arrests,” the agency said in a statement.
Officers will look for signs that drivers impaired by the use of alcohol or drugs, police said.

“Impaired drivers are a danger to the public’s safety; therefore, we are continually looking to take them off the roadways,” police Sgt. Craig Collom said in a statement.
“The safety of our community is, and always will be, our mission.”
Drivers charged with DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
