A driver traveling northbound on Alameda de las Pulgas trying was struck by the suspect’s vehicle while trying to avoid it, police said.

“The impact of the crash sent the driver’s vehicle across the intersection of Alameda de las Pulgas and Fairfax Ave. and through a wooden fence of a residence on the 500 block of Fairfax Ave.,: police said in a statement.

“The vehicle then struck a parked car before coming to rest.”

The suspect spoke briefly with the driver of the other car before ultimately fleeing the scene, according to police.

The suspect fled on foot into the yards of residences along the 500 block of Fairfax Avenue, eluding capture after San Mateo and Burlingame police conducted a search, police said.

Investigators reviewing surveillance video near the area of the collision identified Marroquin Turcois — who they recognized from previous contacts — as the suspect.

Marroquin Turcois was wearing sporting equipment reported stolen that same day from an unlocked vehicle on the 400 block of Cornell Avenue, police said.

Officers also learned the vehicle Marroquin Turcios abandoned at the scene was an unreported stolen vehicle, which was stolen from Laurie Meadows Drive after the owner left the spare key in the center console, police said.

SMPD officers conducted a probation search of Marroquin Turcois at his residence and located the stolen sporting equipment.
