San Mateo Hosts Photo Contest During Earth Month, Hear From Mayor

SAN MATEO, CA — San Mateo Mayor Rick Bonilla asked residents to help conserve water during Earth Month in April.
In a video statement last week, Bonilla said every resident can make a difference by reducing water usage both indoors and outdoors. For instance, residents can install low-flow toilets.
“We all have to go at times,” Bonilla said. “But using high-efficiency models can reduce how much water we use with each flush.”

Another tip was to use more drought-tolerant landscaping rather than drip irrigation for yard work, according to Bonilla. The mayor added that several rebate programs are available to make the transition easier and more affordable.
San Mateo is also holding a photo contest during April for a chance to win prizes. Anyone living or working in San Mateo can share a picture of how they support sustainability to sustainability@cityofsanmateo.org
