San Mateo police detectives on Wednesday conducted sex offender compliance checks on 22 registered sex offenders living in San Mateo
During the compliance checks, detectives verified that the registered offenders
currently reside at the address they are supposed to, and that they work at the jobs they have reported, San Mateo Police Sgt. Dave Norris said.
Along with verifying all of the information, investigators checked to make sure the registered offenders were not violating any laws.
Failing to comply with the guidelines of the sex offender registry is a criminal offense with which the San Mateo Police Department maintains a "zero-tolerance" policy, Norris said.
While conducting the checks, one registered sex offenders was found to be
possibly out of compliance. Detectives are conducting a follow-up and the
investigation is ongoing.
The San Mateo Police Department routinely conducts these checks and is committed to ensuring the public safety and that these offenders are in compliance with all laws, Norris said.
Community members are encouraged to report non-emergent suspicious activity to San Mateo Police Department at (650) 522-7700.
