San Mateo Residents Invited To Join Local CERT Response Team

The San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department CERT course offers skills like managing utilities, and providing basic medical aid.

SAN MATEO, CA — Training to join the local Community Emergency Response Team in San Mateo begins Wednesday.

San Mateo, Belmont and Foster City residents are invited to take the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department CERT course, a series of eight meetings to train civilians to react to emergency and disaster situations.

Skills include managing utilities, putting out small fires and providing basic medical aid.

“Participants of the program will learn lifesaving skills, rescuer safety, and doing the greatest good for the greatest number,” according to the program description.

Classes are every Wednesday beginning Feb. 2 and running through Mar. 16. The training wraps up with a “Skills Day” where participants will receive their certification.
