San Mateo Student Video Competition Winners Announced
Area students were presented with the challenge to create a video short that highlighted one of seven categories about San Mateo.

The City of San Mateo rolled out the red carpet for the seven student film teams from local high schools and the College of San Mateo who entered a recent video competition featuring San Mateo’s unique attributes.
From 25th Avenue to Downtown San Mateo as well as San Mateo’s art scene, young, local talent featured San Mateo with creativity and flare.

Area students were presented with the challenge to create a video short that highlighted one of seven categories about San Mateo including: 25th Avenue, Downtown San Mateo, local art, San Mateo history, North B Street, innovation, and the benefits of raising a family in San Mateo.
Seven student teams took to the challenge and submitted videos showcasing many of San Mateo’s local businesses, restaurants, commercial areas, sculptures and art as well as Central Park and the Japanese Tea Garden.

“We were impressed by the creativity of the videos and the talent of each team,” says Marcus Clarke, Economic Development Manager, “Seeing San Mateo through the eyes of its youth and young adults was inspiring. Their portrayal of San Mateo shows an active, vibrant community that offers something for everyone.”
A screening of the videos was held on Tuesday, November 12th at the Century 12 Cinemark Theater in Downtown San Mateo. The enthusiastic audience voted for the best overall high school video and video submitted by students from the College of San Mateo.
Winners of the competition include: “Small Business Spotlight: 25th Avenue” produced by Jeremiah Rondeau and Richard Shu; Aragon High School, and “Expressions: The Art of San Mateo” produced by Justin Hui; College of San Mateo.

The City of San Mateo plans to host the video competition next year and looks forward to working with a new group of young artists and film students.
