San Mateo Wins First Place in Rand McNally 'Best for Food'
Thanks to San Mateo residents the city garnered enough votes to win first place.

San Mateo is officially on the foodie map.
The city has won first place in the "Best for Food" category of the Rand McNally "Best of the Road" competition, beating out a number of other cities across the country.
"Variety and ethnic diversity figure big on the menus in this bayside town just south of San Francisco," the Best of the Road website states.
"The finalist topping this category also has lots of food trucks and produce and specialty markets, including one with a 'must visit' bakery."
When voting for the category closed on Sept. 3, San Mateo had claimed 1,363 votes and ended the first round in a heated match against Walla Walla, Washington, the second place finalist with 1,349 votes.
Walla Walla took home second place in the category as well.
To win the competition, San Mateo had to impress the panel of Rand McNally’s judges with a video, a written narrative and social media activity.
