San Mateo's Serra High School Names Tyler Ormsby Water Polo Coach
Ormsby is an El Cajon native who starred in water polo in high school and later played collegiately at University of the Pacific.

SAN MATEO, CA —Serra High School announced Wednesday that Tyler Ormsby has been named the school's new water polo coach and aquatics director. He will begin on August 1.
Ormsby, an El Cajon native, played water polo collegiately at the University of the Pacific and Grossmont College. He also spent a season as a redshirt at UCLA.
Ormsby received a bachelor of arts in history from UCLA in March 2020 and he is currently acquiring his teaching credentials, according to Serra High.

The new coach said he'll emphasize fundamentals, teamwork and growth.
"My coaching philosophy is founded on the development and maintenance of sound fundamentals and the preparation and execution of strategic tactics with an emphasis on team cohesiveness and unity, industriousness and sportsmanship," Ormsby said

Ormsby added: "I lead by example and cultivate learning environments where student-athletes and coaches alike practice and play with a growth mindset, always challenging ourselves to perform at our highest level."
Ormsby was a star swimmer and water polo player at Valhalla High School in El Cajon, including being named the Grossmont South League's Water Polo Player of the Year as a senior in 2008.
In high school water polo, Ormsby was coached by his father Greg Ormsby, who was a longtime player and coach of the sport in the San Diego area. Greg Ormsby currently runs the Del Mar Water Polo Club.
"We are thrilled to have Tyler join our athletic department," said Justin Ferdinand, Serra's athletic director. "(Ormsby's) passion and dedication to coaching water polo will hopefully help take our program to the next level."
The Padres are scheduled to open the 2022 water polo season on Aug. 25 at home against Hillsdale.
