SMC Police Chief May Be Commuting From Idaho: Report

The police chief is accused of living at the station during workdays and commuting back to Idaho on days off.

MILLBRAE, CA — The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors president is seeking an independent investigation into allegations that a police chief is living at the station during workdays, commuting to Idaho on days off, according to a report by ABC7 News.

Eamonn Allen, former San Mateo County Sheriff's Office spokesperson, was appointed Millbrae police chief by Christina Corpus. The city contracts with the sheriff's office for law enforcement. Last June, property records show Allen bought a house outside Boise, Idaho, raising questions about his long commute, according to ABC7 News.

On Oct. 21, a fire inspector was unable to access a locked bedroom at the police station. The other bedroom lacked fire-resistant walls and a secondary egress, according to the chief building official.

"If someone is living out of county or out of state, they have to pay for their own lodging, meaning San Mateo County is not a Holiday Inn," San Mateo County Board of Supervisors President David Canepa told ABC7 News.

Living out-of-state violates city and county policies.

ABC7 News also learned that six sheriff's sergeants live in Idaho, Nevada, Texas and Tennessee. Two bomb squad members, earning nearly $600,000 last year, reside out-of-state, making the one-hour response time to threats impossible.
