Street Race May Have Caused Horrific Peninsula Crash: Report

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Investigators believe a street race may have led to a horrific Peninsula crash that killed the parents of 7-year-old twin girls Friday, KTVU reports.

The collision that killed Greg Ammen, 44, and Grace Spiridon, 42 (both of San Carlos), occurred just before 8 p.m. Friday in the area of El Camino Real and Finger Avenue, Redwood City police said.

The twin girls were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. They were taken to Stanford Hospital with minor injuries and released Sunday, Palo Alto Weekly reports.

The family was making a left turn onto Finger Avenue when the collision occurred, KTVU reports.

A 17-year-old juvenile driver and two passengers were located inside the other vehicle. All three were transported to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening.

Witnesses said collision occurred just before 8 p.m. Friday in the area of El Camino Real and Finger Avenue, Redwood City police said.

"I was in my car and these two cars go speeding past just driving super fast. And this other car came out that way and just boom," a witness told the television station.

A GoFundMe established to benefit the twin girls has already raised more than $375,000 since its launch earlier this week.

The “Support for Madison & Olivia” GoFundMe aims to raise $400,000 for the children.

“The world lost two beautiful souls, and leaves two amazing girls without parents,” the GoFundMe says.

The GoFundMe was organized by Liza Spiridon, Grace’s sister.

“It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we begin to mourn the loss of Grace & Greg Ammen.”

Grace Spiridon was a recently promoted Google employee who had a double MBA from UC Berkeley and Columbia, Liza Spiridon told KRON .

Greg Ammen worked for Dolby.

“We would like to honor them by setting up resources for the care of their wonderful 7-year-old girls, Madison and Olivia,” the GoFundMe said.

“Grace and Greg were outstanding people and lights of love, support and inspiration to countless friends, family, co-workers and their community.

“Nothing mattered more to them than Madison and Olivia. The girls, sadly, will need a lifetime of support and love from Grace & Greg's community. These funds will be used towards their immediate and future care.”
