Walmart Mailroom Worker Accused In $100K SMC Embezzlement Case
Police say the man worked for the corporate offices of Walmart.com.

SAN BRUNO, CA — Police on Thursday announced the arrest of a Peninsula man who's accused of stealing more than $100,000 from his employer over the course of a two-year period. Daly City resident Michael Richard Ibarra worked for the corporate offices of Walmart.com, according to San Bruno Police Lt. Ryan Johansen.
Johansen said that Walmart officials contacted police in 2018 after they suspected fraud was occurring in their shipping department.
"An audit revealed suspicious transactions within the company mail room," Johansen said in a news release.

Together, investigators from Walmart and San Bruno police eventually identified mail room employee Ibarra, 24, as their primary suspect.
Johansen said the Daly City man "...used his position to commit hundreds of fraudulent transactions to his personal credits cards in excess of a $100,000 over a two year period."

Ibarra was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of embezzlement.
