SAN RAFAEL, CA — The Marin County Coroner's Division identified the victim in Sunday's crash on the Richmond San Rafael Bridge as Darolyn Alejandra Reyes Rodas, 19, of San Rafael.

Reyes Rodas was riding as a passenger in a silver Honda sedan that was traveling westbound on I-580 at midspan on the bridge shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday when it was involved in a collision with a white Mazda SUV that was also traveling westbound, the California Highway Patrol said.

The people in the Mazada were not injured.

Authorities said the Honda struck the back of the Mazda; the Honda then rolled multiple times until it came to rest on its roof within the roadway.

The CHP was still trying to determine why the crash happened but said Monday that impairment was not a factor.

According to the coroner's office, the Honda was reported to be speeding on the bridge and in the process of making a lane change when it hit the Mazda which was traveling at a slower speed.

Reyes Rodas suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was found unconscious and unresponsive in the car. Bystanders stopped and pulled her from the car and provided CPR before the arrival of first responders.

Paramedics arrived and noted the signs of death, pronouncing her dead shortly after 8 p.m.

"A forensic postmortem examination with routine toxicology testing is being completed later this week," said Roger Fielding, chief deputy coroner for Marin County.

Information about the cause and manner of death is pending the conclusion of investigations being completed by the California Highway Patrol – Marin Office and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division, Fielding said.

"The Marin County Sheriff’s Office and personnel of the Coroner Division offer our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Reyes Rodas."
