2 San Rafael Cops Placed On Leave Amid Ongoing Investigation: Report
A Canal District gardener suffered a broken nose and a concussion, ABC 7 reports.
SAN RAFAEL, CA — Two San Rafael police officers at the center of a use of force investigation have been placed on paid administrative leave amid, ABC 7 reports.
Daisy Mazariegos and Brandon Nail were identified as the officers placed on leave after the television station obtained video in which officers are seen bringing to the ground and beating a man who accused of having an open beer in public, the report said.
The man identified in the report as “Mateo” suffered a broken nose and a concussion in the beating that occurred a month ago, the report said.

Mateo was arrested on suspicion of felony resisting arrest, but those charges were dropped, the report said.

He and his attorney are considering a lawsuit, the report said.
San Rafael Police Chief David Spiller in open letter to the community promised there would be consequences for the officers or anyone who broke the law in connection with the incident.
“I am both personally and professionally concerned about this incident and how it impacts the trust our department has worked hard to build in this community,” Spiller said in a statement.
“I want to assure all members of the San Rafael community that not only is this incident being critically examined, but we will examine our behaviors, including that of our leadership and for those department members that have fallen short, they will be held accountable.”
