SAN RAFAEL, CA — A man and woman face serious charges after police allege they attempted to steal several items from a department store at the Northgate Mall in San Rafael.

In a news release, police said dispatchers received a report of two adults and a young person seen "layering and concealing" merchandise inside the store. Officers made contact with a woman who they determined had two active felony warrants, and police said they recovered stolen items from her purse during the arrest.

Officers located the man in another area of the store and discovered he was carrying a "ghost gun" with no serial number, police said. Officers determined the man was a convicted felon who was out on parole.
