MARIN COUNTY, CA — The Marin County Board of Supervisors will appoint its next registrar of voters Tuesday and the County has chosen a Bay Area local who spent the last few years working in Nevada County.

Natalie Adona will take over the helm of the Marin County Elections Department on June 9 after serving as the County Clerk, Recorder and Registrar of Voters in Nevada County, located in Nevada City, CA.

Adona has a lot of experience working in elections, which she says is her calling, and has commended Marin County for ranking among the highest voter turnout statewide consistently.

“That is an achievement that speaks to both the community’s deep civic engagement and the elections team’s expertise in meeting voters where they are,” Adona said. “I’m honored to build upon the strong foundation established by Lynda Roberts and the entire Marin County team. I look forward to carrying the baton forward and continuing to deliver exceptional service to voters and candidates. Being close to family in Vallejo and serving in elections in beautiful Marin County is truly a dream come true.”

Roberts has led the elections department since July 2014, but announced her retirement in January.

Of the 64 candidates that applied, Adona caught Marin County’s eye.

“Natalie stood out because of her deep experience and reputation statewide and even nationally in the field,” said Derek Johnson, Marin County executive. “She is a hands-on leader who will continue Marin's widespread recognition for ensuring fair, transparent, and accessible elections with integrity and a commitment to voter outreach.”

Adona, who is originally from Vallejo, has worked for the City and County of San Francisco and the County of Alameda training poll workers. She has also worked with election administrators and political scientists in the nonprofit sector where she focussed on improving elections and voting policies.

Adona first served as the Nevada County elections department's assistant for three years before being elected to lead the department in June 2022. While in Nevada City, she was elected the California Association of Clerks and Election Officials secretary in July 2024 and co-chaired the Ballot Design Advisory Committee, which was established by the secretary of state.

Adona has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California at Berkeley and a law degree and a master’s in public administration from The American University in Washington D.C.

The Marin County Elections Department staffs 11 full-time positions year-round but grows to a total team of 200 during election seasons. Nevada County had 74,991 registered voters and an estimated population of 102,037 as of October 2023 compared to Marin County, which has around 170,000 registered voters and a population of 254,407.

Adona’s starting salary will be $218,192 with benefits. Her first day will be June 9.
