Body Found ID’d As Missing Marin Kayaker

MARIN COUNTY, CA —The body of a kayaker who went missing off the Marin County coast last week has been identified as Clinton Yoshio Koga, 39 of Brentwood, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said.
Koga had last been seen around 6:10 p.m. Friday entering Tomales Bay from the Lawson’s Landing campground to retrieve a crabbing cage after fishing with friends earlier in the day, the Sheriff’s Office said.
A friend at 6:29 p.m. who could not locate Koga’s kayak contacted the Sheriff’s Office to report that Koga had gone missing while other friends searched the bay waters for him, the Sheriff’s Office said.

An intensive search was completed by multiple first responders including the Marin County Fire Department, the Marin County Dive team, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office’s Unmanned Aircraft System team, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, and the United States Coast Guard.
“Despite extensive search efforts the subject was not located, and search efforts were suspended,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

California Recovery Divers, a volunteer aquatic search group, at around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday recovered Koga’s body approximately 100 yards from Lawson’s Landing shore, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The group had been searching the Tomales Bay since early that morning.
A forensic postmortem examination is expected to be completed Friday, the Sheriff’s Office said.
