Developer Selected For Former Coast Guard Facility​ In Marin

The Community Land Trust Association of West Marin and Eden Housing was selected as the developer of an affordable housing project.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — The Marin County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously chose the Community Land Trust Association of West Marin and Eden Housing as the developer of an affordable housing project at the former U.S. Coast Guard facility at Point Reyes Station.

Board members said both CLAM/Eden and EAH Housing were qualified and experienced developers and met the requirements of the proposal, but CLAM/Eden won out because of its reputation of giving low-income households their voice and power. The majority of people who submitted comments via email echoed that sentiment.

A seven-member selection committee that reviewed both proposals awarded 607 points to CLAM/Eden and 605 to EAH. Four committee members recommended CLAM/Eden and three recommended EAH.

The primary goal of the development is to provide affordable rental housing for low-income workers in the Point Reyes area and create a site design that creates a neighborhood and invites the community in, according to the county's request for proposals.

The property includes 36 two-, three- and four-bedroom townhouses with fenced backyards and sheds, a barracks with 24 single rooms and a dining room with a commercial-sized kitchen. The existing buildings on the property will be rehabilitated, not razed and rebuilt.

The next steps include environmental review, a Local Coastal Plan amendment, development of a septic system on site and renovating property.
