Fire Damages San Rafael Caltrans Building
A fire broke out Monday at a Caltrans facility in San Rafael, but crews were able to keep the flames from spreading.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — A fire damaged a Caltrans office building in San Rafael early Monday, prompting a large emergency response along Francisco Boulevard West, according to police.
Units from the police and fire departments rushed to the scene shortly after 6 a.m. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the Caltrans building and confirmed the facility was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Police said the fire was extinguished around 7 a.m. as fire crews continued to mop up the scene.
A stretch of the road near the 700 block on Francisco Boulevard West remained closed until mid-morning. The fire department will complete an investigation into what ignited the blaze.
