Man Accused Of Defrauding Seniors Arrested

He is accused of defrauding 2 people of at least $64,000, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — Deputies in Marin County arrested an Uber driver earlier this week suspected of carrying out financial scams that targeted seniors, the Sheriff's Office said.

Zhuowen Yu, 43, is suspected in at least two cases in San Rafael and Point Reyes and is accused of defrauding people of at least $64,000, the Sheriff's Office said in a statement Wednesday.

According to investigators, the alleged schemes involved notifying victims that their Apple ID or Adobe Acrobat accounts were "compromised." The suspects allegedly told the victims to withdraw cash, and a courier would collect the money to protect it from further compromise.

Deputies used the county's automated license plate readers to connect both cases to Yu after his vehicle was allegedly identified.

Yu, who is listed as being a driver for Uber in jail records, was found in his vehicle on Tuesday in South San Francisco by the airport and was detained by police there.
