Rebates Offered For Marin Residents Who Switch To Induction Stoves

Residents of single-family Marin homes are eligible for up to $1,250 in rebates.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — Marin single-family home residents are being offered up to $1,250 in incentives for switching from gas to electric stoves.

The Bay Area Regional Energy Network is offering $750 to eligible residents who are PG&E customers for replacing an existing natural gas range or cooktop with an electric induction range or cooktop.

Electrify Marin is offering $250 for upgrades from gas to induction cooktops, and $500 for replacing a gas range (a cooktop plus an oven) with an electric induction range.

Both natural gas and propane customers are eligible for the Electrify Marin rebates.

Switching to electric stoves reduces greenhouse gas emissions, known to be a leading cause of climate change, and benefits indoor air quality.

Studies conducted by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory link gas stoves with negative health impacts, including childhood asthma.

“Besides reducing greenhouse gas emissions, homeowners that switch to induction cooking can experience other important benefits,” county officials said in a news release.

“Induction cooking improves indoor air quality by removing combustion gases from the home.”

Induction cooking works by using electricity to power a magnetic field that directly heats cookware, making them more efficient than “hot plate” electric stoves.
