Snow Blankets Mt. Tamalpais
The storm has created widespread traffic hazards and caused power outages throughout the Bay Area.
MARIN COUNTY, CA —A rare winter storm has blanketed parts of the Bay Area including Mt. Tamalpais with snow.
The hillsides above Muir Beach about 800 feet from the summit of Mt. Tamalpais could be seen covered with the white stuff from San Francisco Friday morning.
KTVU Meteorologist Mark Tamayo tweeted a submitted video showing local residents snowboarding atop Mt. Tam.

The storm has created widespread traffic hazards and caused power outages throughout the Bay Area. Much of the Bay Area heard booming thunder throughout the night.
“Expecting many more reports such as this to come in this morning, especially after sunrise. Hazardous conditions persist throughout the region this morning due to snow, downed trees and other impacts from this winter storm,” the NWS tweeted.

State Highway 128 is blocked Friday in both directions from the Sonoma/Mendocino county line south to U.S. Highway 101 in Cloverdale because of issues caused by winter weather, according to the California Highway Patrol. The highway closed overnight due to snow, downed trees and wires, CHP officials said Friday morning.

State Highway 17 is closed in both directions in Santa Cruz County on Friday morning because of trees that fell down amid windy winter weather that has also brought snow and ice to the region, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Northbound Highway 17 is blocked at Granite Creek Road and southbound Highway 17 is closed at Bear Creek Road due to the downed trees reported overnight, CHP officials said Friday morning.

Friday will be partly cloudy with showers likely in the morning. There will be a slight chance of thunderstorms. Highs will be in the upper 40s. Southwest winds will be 5 to 10 mph.
Friday night will be partly cloudy before becoming mostly cloudy. Lows will be in the mid 30s to the lower 40s. Northeast winds will be 5 to 10 mph.
Saturday will be mostly cloudy. Highs will be in the lower 50s. North winds will be around 5 mph before switching to west winds in the afternoon.
