Stinson Beach Orders Temporary Evacuations Amid Storm Surge

STINSON BEACH, CA — Stinson Beach Fire issued emergency evacuation orders Thursday morning amid a storm surge and dangerous surf conditions impacting coastal areas.

Fire officials urged immediate evacuations for the areas of Calles Pinos, Pradero, Sierra, Onda Resaca, Ribera, and Embarcadero, as well as sections of Calle Del Arroyo. Emergency crews established a temporary evacuation area at the Stinson Beach Community Center, on 32 Belvedere Avenue.

The evacuation order was lifted at approximately 1:45 p.m.

"Public safety officials have deemed it safe to return to your home," Stinson Beach Fire wrote in an update Thursday afternoon. "Thank you to our community members for following instructions as indicated by our first responders. This serves as a critical reminder of the importance of preparing for a disaster."

A high surf warning issued by the National Weather Service was expected to stay in place until early Friday morning, and forecasters warned that breaking waves higher than 30 feet were possible.
