Volunteers Sought For San Rafael Earth Day ‘Weed Pull'

The volunteer event aims to reduce the risk of wildfires.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — The city of San Rafael is holding a “weed pull” next week, and it has nothing to do with 4/20.

The city’s San Pedro Road Coalition is commemorating Earth Day with a volunteer event that aims to reduce fire risks by removing invasive weed species.

The SPRC is partnering with the Friends of China Camp, Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership, San Pedro Ridge Fire Safety, and San Rafael Fire.

The event will be held April 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., split evenly into two two-hour shifts (9 to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.).

“We will gather in San Rafael to clear fire-prone invasive vegetation species along the Shoreline Trail from Biscayne Drive eastward toward North San Pedro Road,” city officials said in a statement announcing the event.

“If you can join us, please do! Even if you are unable to pull weeds, we can still use volunteers in other ways!”

Participants are urged to wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts or a jack (to protect from poison oak or poison ivy), closed-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, a hat, sunscreen, a water bottle and a snack.

Volunteers will be required to complete a waiver form.
