17th 'Spare the Air' Alert Issued for San Ramon, East Bay
Residents are asked to reduce driving and use mass transportation.
A Spare the Air alert has been issued in the Bay Area for Thursday because of unhealthy air quality that could especially affect small children, seniors and people with respiratory or heart conditions, Bay Area Air Quality Management District officials said.
The alert is the 17th of the summer season, air district officials said. Vehicle exhaust is the main source of Bay Area air pollution during the summer months, so air district officials are asking people to drive less, drive an electric vehicle or travel on foot, bike or transit.
Commuters can learn how to improve air quality as they get to work at 511.org and workers can find out how their company can help them save money on commuting at commuterbenefits.511.org.
