3 More East Bay Jewel Robber Suspects Arrested

SAN RAMON, CA — Three more suspects from the Sept. 22 Heller Jewelers robbery have been arrested, according to the San Ramon Police Department.

Two suspects - Angel Herrera (21, Pacifica) and Cisco Lutu (18, South San Francisco) - were arrested Sept. 30 by the San Jose Police Department in connection with another smash-and-grab robbery that took place at Kim Hung Jewelry in San Jose on Sept. 5.

In that case, a preliminary investigation has revealed that more than 10 suspects forced entry into the store by ramming a vehicle through the front door. Inside, suspects brandished a gun at a man inside the store, and the owner of the store was reportedly assaulted. Suspects then took thousands of dollars worth of items and fled.

Members of the San Ramon Police Department’s Investigations Division and Organized Retail Theft Suppression Team joined the San Jose Police Department in coordinated, multi-agency operations to arrest suspects from the San Jose robbery. During the operation, San Ramon police say they located evidence directly linking several San Jose suspects to the Heller Jeweler robbery. Seven suspects have been arrested in relation to that case as of Oct. 3.

On Oct. 3, San Ramon police arrested Julian Gacutan (19, South San Francisco) in Oakland on a warrant issued by the San Jose Police Department for robbery. Police say a subsequent search of Gacutan’s residence resulted in discovery of additional evidence linking him to the Heller Jewelers robbery.

As of Oct. 13, at least 10 suspects have been arrested in connection with the Heller Jewelers robbery, leaving at least 10 suspects at-large, according to the San Ramon Police Department:

• Ira Raheem Austin, 19, San Francisco

• Jahkeal McGolthin, 18, Oakland
• Deandre Demisse, 19, Oakland
• Jacques Samuel, 18, Oakland
• Unnamed 17-year-old

The robbery began at around 1:50 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22 at Heller Jewelers at City Center, according to police. Approximately 20 masked individuals entered the store and began smashing display cases, taking numerous items. Several suspects were armed with handguns, and at least one suspect fired rounds through the front entrance to the store.

This marked the second time in just over two years that Heller Jewelers was the victim of an armed robbery.
