Chow City Center To Close Sept. 10
The restaurant/bar announced on social media that it will close its final location after just a year of operation.
SAN RAMON, CA — Ciao, Chow: The Bishop Ranch location of the eatery once popular all around the Bay Area announced that it will close Sept. 10, just a year after it opened.
“We’re closing after our service on September 10,” the restaurant announced in an Aug. 27 social media post. “Please join us in saying goodbye over the next couple of weeks. We have little time to share our thanks with each other, and to say our proper goodbyes to all of you, and to your families who have embraced us over the years. With your gracious support, we were almost there - but we just ran out of time.”
The City Center location opened in Aug. 2022, three years after its last Bay Area location had closed down in Lafayette and the company filed for bankruptcy, according to a report in DanvilleSanRamon. The 6,907-square-foot location offered indoor and outdoor dining, a bar, and a market offering fresh produce, ready-to-eat food, wines, beers, and alcohol.

Chef-owner Tony Gulisano opened the first location in 1997, with a focus on healthy, local dishes drawn from a number of different cuisines. At its peak, it had five locations: two in San Francisco, and one in Oakland, Danville, and Lafayette. The location on Railroad Avenue in Danville closed in May 2018 after being open more than a decade.
When the restaurant returned in 2022, Gulisano called it a “unique opportunity to create something special for everyone, including the animated younger generation that's so much part of the community.”

A spokesperson for City Center Bishop Ranch told DanvilleSanRamon that staff will spend the next few weeks deciding what to do with the vacant space.
“The staff really loved hearing how excited everyone was to have us back, we loved seeing new and familiar faces,” Chow said in its statement. “You all exceeded our hopes, and you continue to be a pleasure to serve. The extraordinary team at the City Center graciously gave us this opportunity. Please continue supporting this center, its tenants and offerings.
