Contra Costa County Crime Lab Receives Grant to Buy 24 New Breathalyzers
About 4,000 law enforcement personnel will be trained to use the new breathalyzers.
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office announced this week that its crime lab received a $324,000 grant to buy new breathalyzers.
The money will come from the California Office of Traffic Safety. The money will be used to buy 24 new breathalyzers, which will replace the ones currently in use by the law enforcement agencies in the county, sheriff's officials said.
The officials said the new equipment will ensure the highest quality of analyses in DUI cases. About 4,000 law enforcement personnel will be trained to use the new breathalyzers. Sheriff's officials said the rollout of the breathalyzers and the training of the personnel will take about one year.
