SAN RAMON VALLEY, CA — A San Ramon Valley firefighter wriggled through an 18-inch storm drain amid triple-digit heat this weekend to rescue a trapped calf.

The calf was found in the Sycamore Valley Regional Open Space Preserve near the the Shady Slope trailhead, said San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District spokesperson Ryan Mahoney in an email.

The steaks were high. The calf was separated from its mother and somehow managed to make its way 125 feet past the storm drain's entrance, firefighters said.
